Br Bosco Cup Round 1

The 2025 Leinster GAA Post Primary Senior A Football Championship or Br Bosco Cup is set to begin next week, with several exciting fixtures lined up. This competition is a highlight in the schools’ football calendar, showcasing the best young footballing talent across Leinster, and has a rich history of producing future GAA stars. This year the question on everyones mind will be can anyone stop Naas CBS? The Kildare side have been on an unprecedented run since 2018 and will be looking to secure their 6th title this year!

The opening game on Monday, October 14th, sees five-time winners Knockbeg College, whose last title came in 2005, taking on Ardscoil na Tríonóide (Athy). Knockbeg have a proud tradition in this competition, and they’ll be looking to reignite their former glory.

Tuesday, October 15th, is packed with key clashes. St Mel’s College, Longford, the competition’s most successful school with a staggering 29 titles, will face Scoil Mhuire Clane. St Mel’s, whose last victory came in 2003, will be aiming to reclaim their dominance, while Clane will be determined to prove themselves against such an esteemed opponent. On the same day, Moate Community School, formerly known as Carmelite College, Moate, and six-time champions from 1975 to 1981, take on St Fintan’s High School, Sutton. In another intriguing tie, two-time champions Coláiste Eoin, Dublin, who last won the cup in 2014, face Terenure College.

The action continues on Wednesday, October 16th, with St Benildus College, who lifted their first Br Bosco Cup in 2016, taking on the formidable Good Counsel College, New Ross, four-time winners, with their most recent victory a year previous to their counterparts in 2015. This game promises to be one of the highlights of the round.

On Thursday, October 17th, the matchups keep coming thick and fast. Marist College, Athlone, face Ashbourne Community School. Meanwhile, St Patrick’s, Navan, one of the competition’s powerhouses with 10 titles, will go head-to-head with Patrician Secondary School, Newbridge. St Pat’s Navan last claimed victory in 2013 and are always strong contenders.

Elsewhere, Ardscoil Rís, Dublin,  face off against Coláiste Mhuire, Mullingar. Finally, St Peter’s College, Wexford, winners in 1992 and 2017, will take on Gorey Community School in a Wexford derby to round off the first round of fixtures.

With such an array of talent and history involved, the 2025 Br Bosco Cup is set to deliver another thrilling chapter in Leinster schools’ football. All eyes will be on these opening fixtures as teams aim to etch their names into the competition’s storied roll of honour.
